THE COLLECTIONS Rules and Play, Bodies and Space. Four exhibitions with highlights, discoveries, and newcomers
Description
This publication provides a selected insight into the diverse and outstanding art collections that are preserved, researched and presented at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg. The spectrum ranges from classical modernism to new media, from historical references to the pressing issues of the present.
The catalog chooses two unifying themes under which the various collections at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg are viewed: social space and play. The synopsis of the collections under this aspect provides an exciting look at homo ludens and homo socialis, at the human being who experiences and shapes the world as a playful and social being. The occasion is two anniversaries: twenty years of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg on Mönchsberg and ten years of the Generali Foundation Collection on permanent loan to the Museum der Moderne Salzburg.
For the first time, this publication brings together the various collections of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg under a common perspective: the Collection of Graphic Art, Painting and Sculpture as well as the Collection of Photography and Media Art of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, the Austrian Federal Photography Collection, Generali Foundation Collection—Permanent Loan to the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, and the Artothek Land Salzburg.
