Description

This publication, published for the retrospective at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, documents the work of the influential American artist Carolee Schneemann (b. 1939) spanning six decades. The starting point is Schneemann's early portrait and landscape paintings from the 1950s, from which the development of her assemblages and painting constructions from the 1960s is shown. The artist began to combine her painterly investigations of the figure in the landscape with art historical research and to integrate photographs and everyday objects into her work. Instead of her subjective artistic design, she used unusual methods in her work process, such as the use of fire.
