Description

The Tell Me What You See publication. Skrein Photo Collection honors photographer and collector Christian Skrein (1945 Vienna, AT). In the 1960s he had made a career as a photo reporter, later he felt attracted by the artists, designers and architects of the young Viennese avant-garde. In 1970 he passionately began collecting photographs from all over the world, laying the foundation for the Skrein Photo Collection, which focuses on artistic and documentary photographs from the 1920s to 1970s, but also historical photographs from the 19th century. The collection is also known for its pioneering role in the reception of snapshot photography and numerous recordings of the revolution in Cuba.

The publication tries for the first time to make the entire diversity of this extensive collection visible and tangible and focuses on important icons of the history of photography, which are undogmatically mixed with anonymous pictures and recordings by Christian Skrein. With over 260 photographs, which are arranged in 12 chapters, the aim is to make the profile of the collector couple and their approach, preferences and expertise clear.
